Jennifer Lopez breaks down on “Idol” – “I don’t want to do this anymore”

It was an emotional night on “American Idol” as this season’s contestants were narrowed down to the final 24 competitors. But at one point, it seemed to be more stressful for this year’s new judges than it was for the contestants.

SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT READ FORWARD IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN LAST NIGHT’S EPISODE!

Jennifer Lopez has grown attached to a handful of “Idol” contestants during the audition stages. We have seen the Hollywood superstar connect on a personal level with a few contestants who have had significant hardships … and it has become difficult for Lopez to send these deserving singers packing.

But that all came to a head last night with the “Idol” trio of judges – which also includes Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler – cut Chris Medina from the competition. Medina has an ailing young wife at home who was debilitated following a car accident. Her love kept Median going through some tough points, but his journey ended last night with an elimination from the contest.

And it literally broke Lopez’s heart.

“I just don’t feel like I told him the right away,” Lopez cried as she was comforted by her fellow judges in this clip.

“I don’t want to do this anymore,” she said.

Judging “Idol” is no cake walk, and I think Lopez realized that she – and the show – holds the fragile dreams of young singers in her hands. Of course, Lopez will be back. But it was a legitimately emotional moment on a heartbreaking “Idol” last night … and the full-blown competition hasn’t even started yet!
