Pak-India delegations plant ‘peace tree’

SLAMABAD: Delegations of Pakistan and India planted a ‘peace tree’ here on Monday, Geo News reported.

The two delegations headed by Indian journalist and former member of Indian parliament Kuldeep Nayyer planted the sapling here at Shakar Paryan area of the capital city of Islamabad. The plant was labeled ‘Shajar-e-Aman’ (Peace Tree).

Later talking to media men, the members of the delegations said that the vested interest and agencies for their personal gains undermine the efforts towards establishing peace. Therefore, they added that it was imperative to enhance people-to-people contact between the two nations.

“The same elements that were involved in Mumbai attack are responsible for the unrest in Pakistan,” they said, underlining the need for Pakistan and India to hammer out a joint strategy to effectively deal with the scourge of terrorism.

On the occasion, the members of Pakistani delegation asked the visiting delegation ‘if you could convince India to cut down its budget allocation for military, we will also press Pakistan to undertake similar action’.

They ruled out establishment of peace without resolving Kashmir issue.
