Lasith Malinga’s fierce bowling and Tharanga-Dilshan’s stunning batting demolished Kenya in the 14th match of the ICC World Cup 2011 played in Colombo.
Kenya won the toss and elected to bat but the decision could not work for them because of the comeback of Lasith Malinga after an injury. Kenya were bowled out at only 142 runs in 43.4 overs and Sri Lanka chased it in a fantastic way at a loss of one wicket in 18.4 overs.
Tharanga scored 67 unbeaten while Dilshan made thrilling 47 runs to power Sri Lanka to wrap up early victory. Then, captain Sangakkara along with Tharanga played till the end.
Earlier, both Kenya openers were bowled out in the early overs but Obuya brothers showed some resistance against the quality bowling with their 94 runs partnership. Twin fifties of Obuya brothers were not supported by the middle order batsmen and the tail-enders who collapsed within 40 runs.
Malinga picked 6 wickets at 38 runs while Kulasekara, Mathews and Muralitharan took 1 wicket each. Maligna was declared man of the match on 6 wickets haul including a second hat-trick of the world cup.
