LAHORE: A spokesman of former prime minister and Senior Vice Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, has strongly rejected a news report that he was joining another political party. Terming the report published in a section of press as incorrect, the spokesman said the former prime minister’s commitment to the PPP and its ideology were unwavering and the baseless news reports were a figment of imagination of the correspondents, and amounted to professional misconduct. The spokesman said that Gilani joined the PPP in 1987 and his contributions for the restoration of democracy and rights of the downtrodden under the banner of the PPP were well known. The spokesman quoted Gilani as saying that it was due to the PPP that he had the honour of serving as the prime minister of Pakistan for more than four years during which historic legislation and amendments were passed by the Parliament that would have a lasting impact on the political process in the country. The spokesman said Yusuf Raza Gilani expressed his displeasure over the publication of the news item and urged action against those responsible for the publication of news without verification.
